AbstractDearden's paper discusses the places most likely to provide extensive information for genealogical research; the use of photographs in research; the reasons for German migration to the U.S.; and migration patterns within Germany. It includes excerpts from the Hamburg Passenger List and Meyers Ort Gazetteer, photographs, and a table of German Empire States and their present-day names. In addition it gives concrete tips for conducting research.
