NotesFrom Ward, Bio-Bibliography, 1985: Rosenthal-Bonin, Hugo, b. 10-14-1840 in Palermo, Italy, d. 4-7-1897 in Stuttgart. Son of German parents. Stud. med. and phil. at Univ. Berlin. Emig. to America and travelled to Norway, Spain, Greece, Japan as ship doctor. Returned to Berlin in 1870 and began to write tales of his adventures and travels. Joined the staff of Land und Meer in Stuttgart in 1872 and worked for 20 yrs. for this and other periodicals, incl. Illustreirte Welt, Romanztg. aller Nationen, Vom Fels zum Meer. Became freelance writer in Stuttgart in 1892.
