Returned to Germany in 1842 and began to write of his adventures. 1849-52 visited California, South America, Australia and other foreign places with German settlements. 1860-68 in America, also trips to Egypt and Abysinnia in 1862. Prolific writer of adventure novels and travel sketches.]
