Abstract[From Ward, Bio-Bibliography, 1985: Gerstaecker, Friedrich (Wilhelm Christian), b. 5-10-1816 in Hamburg, d. 5-31-1872 in Braunschweig. Poet, novelist, dramatist, essayist. Son of the famous tenor, Samuel Friedrich G. Came to America in 1837 and worked at various occupations. Returned to Germany in 1842 and began to write of his adventures. 1849-52 visited California, South America, Australia and other foreign places with German settlements. 1860-68 in America, also trips to Egypt and Abysinnia in 1862.
