| Abstract | From the Preface to the First Course: "... written with a special view to the requirements of American schools[, i]t is based upon Ahn's deservedly popular system, but is, in all other respects, an original work.... "Ahn's Rudiments" has been written in accordance with Mr. City Superintendent Kiddle's carefully prepared Plan of Instruction ... as followed in the Public Schools of New York City." Further detailed is the breakdown of instructional levels. NOTE: the grade level numbering is the reverse of what we are familiar with in the 20th century, etc. It corresponds to the classical education system of counting "down" to the final year of education. Thus, the "First Course" consists of Ahn's First German Book designated "for the "8th and 7th grades" and Ahn's Second German Book "for the 6th and 5th grades" respectively. The "Second Course" consists of Ahn's Third German Book (for the 4th and 3rd grades), and Ahn's Fourth German Book (for the 2nd and 1st grades). |
