Karl George Brauer born in Lissberg, Wetteraukreis, Hesse, on January 10, 1831. In 1854, he married Clara Elizabeth Sellman (1833–1920). He died in North Tonawanda, Niagara, New York, on May 12, 1907. Karl Brauer was educated in Frankfurt am Main and Friedberg, and came to America around 1850. He taught in Philadelphia, St. Louis, Cleveland, and Baltimore, and was professor of music at the Teachers' Seminary in Addison, Illinois from 1866-1897.
