| Abstract | Poems arranged in sections: Sang und Leben, Liebesklaenge, Neujahrs-Gedanken, and Nachklaenge. Includes: "An ein amerikanisches Maedchen," "An ein amerikanisches Juengling," "Der Feuermann" (mentions the Mississippi River), "Der Indianer-Haeuptling," "Eisenbahn-Galopp" (includes English words), "Nimmermehr" (similar to Poe's poem), poems on the years from 1863 to 1884, several of which reference the U.S. Civil War, and "Spanisch" (also mentions the Mississippi River). The final poem is a translation into English (by Hon. G. M. Woodward, M. C.) of the poem "Resignation," which appears earlier in the collection. |
