| MKI Annotation | MKI's copy missing portrait illustraion. Repaired by Memorial Library's Conservation Lab. Joseph Rainer was born Feb 10, 1845 in Kaltern (Tyrol). He came to America in 1866, and was ordained a Roman Catholic priest in 1867. From 1887 he was the director of St. Francis Seminary in Wisconsin. and a professor of Latin, Greek, and Hebrew. On March 10, 1904, he was named a prelate by Pope Pius X. In addition to his biography of Dr. Josef Salzmann, Rainer also published poetry in German and Latin and contributed to Columbia (Milwaukee) and other Catholic papers. |
