| MKI Annotation | Label: A. Honegger. --- Wilhelm Nast, born June 15, 1807 in Stuttgart, died May 16, 1899 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Founder of the German branch of the Methodist Episcopal Church and co-founder of German Wallace College in Berea, Ohio (now Baldwin-Wallace College). Came to America in 1828. Instructor of German at West Point, 1830-1832; taught German, Greek, and Hebrew at Kenyon College, then entered ministry. In 1835, appointed missionary to German settlers in Cincinnati. Established a church there in 1838 and in 1839 founded “Der Christliche Apologete,” which he edited for more than 50 years. |
