MKI AnnotationJohann Michael Gottlieb Schaller was born 12 February 1819 in Kirchenlamitz, Upper Franconia, and died 19 November 1887 in St. Louis. He was a Lutheran minister in Germany and the U.S., emigrating to America on 18 September 1848. He was a pastor in Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Detroit, and vicar and then pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church in St. Louis, where he also was president of the western district of the Missouri Synod. In 1872 he became professor of church history at Concordia Seminary. He wrote religious essays and German poetry for Der Lutheraner.
