NotesTitle page reads: "Lieder und Gedichte aus dem Nachlass von Carl Heinrich Schnauffer." On t.p. verso: "Entered according to Law by Wm. Schnauffer with the Librarians of Congress, Sept. 17th, 1879. Carl Heinrich Schnauffer (4 July 1823, Heimsheim Württemberg -- 4 September 1854 Baltimore, Maryland) was a poet, soldier and editor. Following a business education he studied at the University in Heidelberg, and became one of the editors of the Journal in the city of Mannheim. Active in the German revolution of 1848-49, he fled then to Switzerland where he worked at Hecker's Volksfreund. Following returns to Baden and Switzerland he went to London, and in the early 1850s came to Baltimore, and founded the "Baltimore Wecker." After he died just a few years later, his wife continued publishing the Wecker. (Widmung and en.wikipedia) Copy also in UW-Memorial Library.
