Max Hempel was born June 14, 1863 in Dresden, studied pedagogy in Friedrichstadt, came to America in 1880/1881; he died 1906 in St. Louis. Taught at Toenfeldt Educational Institute in St. Louis in 1883, 1884, 1890-93; also taught at Hilgermann's Mädchenschule in St. Louis. From 1885 to 1891, teacher and director of G-A School of Omaha, Neb. where he edited and publlished a periodical for young people. Married Charlotte Werner, ca. 1884. Speaker of Freie Gemeinde von Nord St. Louis (1893-1906). Follower of the Monists.
