MKI AnnotationLouis Seybold "was born in Hohenschwangau, Landkreis Ostallgäu in Bavaria, immigrated to America in 1874 at age 18, and settled in Akron." He was editor of the Akron Germania, a German-language daily newspaper founded in 1869, and of Akron's Freie Presse. Seybold married Louisa Doppstaeder of Ashland, Ohio, in 1879; the couple raised eight children. Seybold was active in many German American societies, including the German-American Alliance of Ohio, a chapter of the National German-American Alliance. In August 1910, the "annual convention of the German-American Alliance of Ohio was held in Akron, with Seybold serving as chairman of the local arrangements committee of the Akron branch. The dedication of the John Brown Monument was the focal point of the convention, [attracting] more than 8,000 people."
