AbstractWilliam H. Pommer was born in St. Louis on March 22, 1851, the son of Frederic W. Pommer, piano-forte maker. William H. Pommer was a talented musician and composer, educated in Leipzig and Vienna. He returned to St. Louis in 1875 and had "an illustrious career there as musician, conductor, and educator." He then founded the music department at the University of Missouri at Columbia, and taught there from 1907 until 1922.
