MKI AnnotationPedro Reinhold Maurice Ilgen was born July 5, 1869 in Wiesbaden; he emigrated to America with his parents. He was ordained a Lutheran pastor in 1887, serving first in Yoakum and Galveston, Texas, then in HIghland, Illinois (1889-1895), and then at the Unabhängige Deutsche Evangelische Protestantische Kirche zum Heiligen Geiste (1896-1913), the oldest German Protestant church in St. Louis. Founder of Für Geist und Gemüt; he contributed poetry and prose to Die Glöcke, Deutsch-Amerikanische Dichtung, and Der deutsche Vorkämpfer. After receiving his Ph.D. in 1902, he was appointed professor of psychology and electro-therapy at St. Louis College of Physicians & Surgeons (now Washington University). Was a delegate in 1910 to the World Congress for Free Christianity and Religious Progress. Travelled to Europe in 1914, and resided in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, in 1917. He died 1920 in St. Louis, Missouri.
