| Abstract | The Weidemeyer, Schlag, and Hebebrand families emigrated as a group from the village of Gross Ropperhausen, Kurhessen; they arrived in Baltimore, Maryland, in December of 1834. [Adolph Weidemeyer, having served his military obligation in Europe, immigrated in 1838, and enlisted as a sergeant in the US Army for service in Florida during the Second Seminole War.] The families lived primarily in Baltimore, with one branch of the Weidemeyers migrating to Ohio, Indiana, and eventually Arkansas. "With the demise of Anna Martha Weidemeyer Schlag" [around 1855], Jacob--left with four minor children--married Anna's niece, and "normal consanguineous relationships crumbled with the birth of three more children." This article traces the Schlag family descendants. |
