Abstract"Recent discoveries of more letters from Germany, saved by our family's first immigrants, include a number from Anton [Blank, dating from between 1896 and 1914]. By 1869, the Schlichtings had all left their Neuland Oste Dike home. They settled first in Cincinnati, then in Milwaukee. By 1870 they had begun farming in southeastern Minnesota and eventually they farmed near Portland, Oregon. . . . When the last American nephew died in 1915, and Anton in 1916, contact between any family in Germany and their American relatives ceased."
