AbstractTells the story of Johanne Auguste Trepte, who came to America on the Elise in 1855, bound for Cincinnati. Left at an inn while quite young, Auguste became an accomplished cook, and worked at Balthasar Castle in Rust, Baden-Wuerttemberg. It was here that she met Sebastian Obert, whose sister, Cresentia, had emigrated to America in 1850 to marry Leopold Maurer in Columbus, Ohio. Sebastian Obert arrived in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1854, where he waited for Augusta. They were married at St. John's in Cincinnati in 1857.
