AbstractPastor Ludwig Wilhelm (Louis William) Graepp (1834-1910), was born in Brandenburg, Prussia and attended college at Greifswald, near the Baltic Sea. After teaching in the Prussian school system, he migrated to Canada in 1873. He served in the Canada Synod in Ontario until 1881. Upon moving to the United States, he became a member of the Wartburg Synod, serving in Springfield, IL, and Wooster, OH. ln 1884, he was installed at St. Petri Lutheran in Toledo. Turmoil at St. Petri led Pastor Graepp to resign from that congregation. In the early months of 1890, Pastor Graepp and those who left with him established Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church of Toledo. Graepp served Zion until the last Sunday of September, 1896. Thereafter he was in Mayville, Michigan; Maryland; and Delaware before serving out his tenure in California. He died of a stroke in 1910.
