MKI AnnotationClara Berens was the daughter of Rev. Johann Georg Josef Anton Rieger, one of the founders of the German Lutheran Synod in America. She was educated in Jefferson City, Missouri, and studied at the Monticello School in Alton, Illinois, after which she taught English in Holstein, Missouri. Married Pastor August Berens, in 1878.
