AbstractIn 1800, in Rommelsbach, Wuerttemberg, Jacob Reiser was born out-of-wedlock to Anna Barbara Reiser; the father was recorded as being Jacob Weber, a Bohemian cavalryman. The article examines Jacob's life in Germany, especially as they pertain to his illegitimate status and his two marriages (to Anna Marie Radermacher in 1827, and to Maria Schaefer in 1840) in Allscheid, Rhineland-Pfalz. Jacob Reiser, his wife, and two daughters immigrated to America in 1847, settling in Ozaukee County, Wisconsin.
