Abstract"The author, a Lutheran pastor in the Old Zion congregation in Philadelphia, was, by his own account, falsely imprisoned for a breach of the Espionage Act during World War II. He was sentenced to ten years in prison, three of which he spent in the Lewisburg Penitentiary. He describes the conditions and inmates of the prison with stoicism and good humor. His sentence was later commuted by President Truman and followed by a pardon from President Eisenhower"--Paul Boytinck, former librarian at Bucknell University
