Abstract | Part XI - XI. Despite his good intentions, Henry Merkl's life in Berlin becomes hedonistic. "Er lebte nur dem Tage und dem Augenblicke, und der Tag und der Augenblick fuegten sich und waren ihm zu Willen. Und so schritt er erhobenen Hauptes dem Abgrunde zu." Henry reads a letter from his mother, begging him to pray to Mother Mary and return home, but he closes his eyes and the letter, like the one before it, remains unanswered. [To be continued.] |
