AbstractNast was born on 15 June 1807 in Stuttgart, capital of the German Kingdom of Württemberg. Although educated to enter the Lutheran ministry, Nast preferred pursuits in the arts and humanities. Nast immigrated to the United States in 1828, teaching at the United States Military Academy and later became a professor at Kenyon College, Ohio. He converted to the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1835, was licensed to preach, and edited a German Methodist paper, Der Christliche Apologete. Nast also served as the first President of German Wallace College, which later became Baldwin Wallace University. He died in Cincinnati on 16 May 1899.
