MKI AnnotationInscribed: Emmet [I or J]. Bowen, Saginaw, Dec. 25, 1890. --- Konstantin / Constantin Grebner was born March 1, 1830 in Bronnbach, Baden. He studied in Heidelberg, and came to America in 1849, after taking part in the Revolution of 1848. He returned to Europe after staying only a short time here, and then traveled to Rio de Janeiro, Mexico, California, Japan, China, Paris, England, Holland, and Java. He returned to the U.S. in 1875 and taught in public schools in Cincinnati (1883 on); East Saginaw, Michigan; and Wilmington, Delware. He was the director of a German-American orphanage in Baltimore. He is known as a journalist, teacher, writer, and poet, contributing to New Yorker Staatszeitung, Die Glocke (Chicago), Westliche Blaetter, Der Deutsche Pionier, and Frankfurter Schulzeitung. He died Feb. 20, 1907 in Cincinnati, Ohio.
