AbstractProvides "a general description of bookmaking and binding produced in the Community of True Inspiration [Amana, Iowa], using evidence of surviving collections. Episodes and variations of binding methods and types offer material evidence reflecting events and beliefs of Inspirationist history. A triad of binder attributions, structural features and communal program are converged to lend identity to given bound copies." Includes images of exemplars and models, decorated board papers, and bindery endpapers; a chart showing bindey careers during the Inspirationist communal era, 1840 to 1930; and notes on preliminary research on Inspirationist bookbinders.
