Hugo Weidemann, born 1826 in Silesia, came to America in 1852, died March 16, 1857 in Charleston, South Carolina.

Christian Friedrich Vogler, born in Elleben, died 1891. Came to Charleston, S. C., where he edited the Deutsche Zeitung. Participated in the Civil War, then returned to Erfurt, Germany.

Franz Melchers, born 1826 in Oldenburg, came to America in 1846. Bought Der Teutone from J. A. Wagener and changed its name to Deutsche Zeitung. Served 4 years as a member of the South Carolina state legislature.
