MKI AnnotationKarl Weitershausen was born in 1811 in Beltershain, Hesse, and died 1890 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was an enthusiastic supporter of the Turner movement. In 1837 he and his wife departed for America. In 1846 he founded St. Paul's Evangelical Church, and in 1850 helped to found the Allegheny Turnverein. After a fire in 1888 destroyed the Turnhalle, Weitershausen helped builde a new one. Contributed poems to several German-American periodicals. --- In need of repair.
